GUANGZHOU, China–Shanghai has broken ground on a major E-sports Stadium as the city pushes to become the leader in competitive gaming.
China—The largest populated country has proven to be the best in almost every aspect. Even in Gaming, China has given the world some of the best gamers and teams in various games.
About the Arena:
1. The venue is based in Shanghai, China. Shanghai International New Cultural and Creative E-sports Center is the name of the Venue.
2. The construction cost of the whole arena will be approx. 5.8 billion yuan ($898.2 million). With a total area of 500,000 square meters.
3. Above all, The Venue will be designed and structured in such a way that it will be a great hub. The hub will be the hotspot for many e-sports players and companies.
4. It will also have a hotel attached for ease and accommodation for the players and visitors.
Shanghai has looked to position itself as a global e-sports center. Last year, the city hosted the “League of Legends” World Championship, one of the biggest events in the e-sports calendar.
CHINA’s E-sports Status
E-sports have escalated very quickly in China as well as in other countries. In 2020, E-sports industry might have generated around $1.1 billion globally. According to Newzoo, China is the largest market for e-sports.
Meanwhile, 70% of China’s 720 million gamers play e-sports games, according to another research firm Niko Partners. So the market has large potential.
SuperGen, the Chinese parent company of e-sports team Edward Gaming, is the main backer of the E-sports Stadium In Shanghai. The e-sports hub is expected to open in 2024, according to local media.
